Believe it or not, I used to be in your position! As a family we got a lovely little pup.
Now, my partner and I had always been dog owners, but bloody hell, nothing could have prepared us for we ended up with.
Our Milo, was great to start with, a normal, excitable pup. But things started to change rapidly! The barking, the stealing, the destroying, the jumping up, him taking us for walk instead of the other way round, the separation anxiety, the list could go on and on.
We had dog trainers come in to him, they tried different training techniques. We sent him off for residential training. Nothing worked. Mainly, because no one knew how to deal with him.
I had had enough, he was causing arguments in the family, he couldn't be left, it was like being held hostage in my own home.
We discussed rehoming him, but the look in my sons eyes told me that was not an option. So what was I going to do?
Yep! That's right!
I learnt how to train a dog! I became a dog trainer!
Now things didn't improve straight away, I spent a lot time reading and researching, I can't tell you how many courses I completed, I lost count! But what it actually came down to, was using everything I had learnt, along with quite a lot of trial and error, treating Milo like an individual, finding what made him tick. Once I had that it was a whole different ball game!
Our family is now complete, Milo is no longer a pain in the butt and has become a great companion.
So you see, I know what your going through on a personal level, I know I can help you find that loving and well behaved companion that you imagined when you brought your pup home.
